You know you're Japanese when...

hugging and other intimate contact makes you uneasy, yet daily you cram yourself so tightly into a rush-hour train that you can determine, to the minute, how long it's been since the guy in front of you washed his hair. And you have the self-control not to express disgust with this state of affairs.

Isn't it also a Japanese custom to grope young women on the subways?

I posted this earlier, but it doesn't show up on your blog....

Yes, Japan has a proud tradition of young woman-groping. Middleage woman-groping is also a fairly common occurrence, and I believe elderly groping is probably not unheard of. But don't be mislead by the media hype: this phenomenon is not limited to the subways. Certain surface train lines are also infamous for their high grope rates.

But did you also know that many train and subway lines have begun operating female-only cars close to the driver cabin during the evening hours? This sexist practice has recently crept into the morning rush hour timeslots as well.

Entirely unrelated to groping, my kotowaza slack began when our Internet service was prematurely cut off prior to our move. Since then we've been in a state of flux leading up to our April 12th repatriation.

Thank you, Safety Neal, for being a faithful reader. Kotowaza will resume shortly.

Not a "Tradition" more so of a "Happening"
I think the "Chi-kans" need to die, they give the Japanese a bad Name.
