How about: "A leopard cannot change its spots." Slightly different feel, but it resembles the original kotowaza.

Hmmm... I like that one, Safety. But it does have a different feel, dealing only with one individual's unchanging nature. I think I found a kotowaza that matches it fairly well, though. Check the entry for 1/19.
